Ahead of Nigeria's new President's inauguration on May 29, 2023, reports reveal that the country's presidential jet, the Boeing 737, has been flown out of the country for extensive maintenance. Known as NAF 001, the aircraft had previously served President Muhammadu Buhari for the past eight years.
According to Punch News, sources at the Villa claim that the aircraft was taken out of the country over the weekend, although the exact location of the maintenance remains unknown.
The Boeing company has in the past carried out maintenance on the aircraft, which was built at their military aircraft division at facilities in South Carolina, Everett, and Renton, Washington. During its last flight, the 20-year-old aircraft transported President Buhari to Accra, the capital of Ghana, for the summit of the Gulf of Guinea Commission.
The Presidential Air Fleet will accommodate Buhari on a different aircraft over the next four weeks while its current leader, NAF 001, undergoes the necessary maintenance. It is a standard procedure to fly a Presidential jet out of the country for comprehensive maintenance to ensure the safety of the President during any future trips. The Presidential jet is considered a symbol of Nigeria's leadership and must remain in excellent condition at all times.
