The Governing Board of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has directed the Acting Comptroller-General (CG) of the Service, Isah Jere Idris, to retire on or before April 24, 2023, prompting excitement among NIS staff.
The Board advised the CG to hand over to the most senior officer pending the appointment of a substantive CG.
President Muhammadu Buhari had extended Idris' service last year, a move criticized by some Nigerians for favoring people of Northern extraction. The most senior official in the institution is due to retire next month.
