The Cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria (CEAN) has reported that it generated N441 million in ticket sales across the country in March. This was disclosed by the National Chairman of CEAN, Mr. Opeyemi Ajayi, during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.
According to Ajayi, the total number of viewers admitted into cinemas across the country during the period under review was 174,071. He further stated that the total sales for the month of March were encouraging when compared with the previous month of February, which saw a total sales of N278 million due to activities surrounding the Presidential and National Assembly elections, as well as the national problem of cash crunch.
The increase in ticket sales in March can be attributed to the release of new and popular movies. These movies drew in large crowds and helped boost the revenue generated by the cinema industry.
The cinema industry in Nigeria has been faced with several challenges in recent times, including the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, which led to the closure of cinemas for several months. However, with the reopening of cinemas and the release of popular movies, there has been a gradual recovery in the industry.
The CEAN is optimistic that the industry will continue to grow and generate more revenue in the coming months, as more movies are released.
