The ICPC has recently made an arrest of an accountant working at an Oando Filling Station in Dutse, Abuja, on suspicion of engaging in racketeering with new Naira notes.

The arrest comes as part of the Commission's efforts to crack down on individuals taking advantage of the scarcity of new notes to deceive unsuspecting Nigerians.

The ICPC Monitoring Team was tipped off that the filling station had intentionally disconnected its Point of Sale (POS) services, which prevented drivers from using their Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards to access petrol, popularly known as Premium Motor Spirit.
Upon investigation, the team found that motorists were only able to pay in cash, and those without new notes were directed to a POS operator located next to the station.

The ICPC operatives discovered that the POS operator was charging an exorbitant rate as commission, which went against the Central Bank of Nigeria's directive.

The team confiscated One Million Naira (N1,000,000) from the POS operator, which was deposited into a bank account. The POS operator and the filling station's accountant were both arrested and later granted administrative bail.

The ICPC's efforts are aimed at eliminating corrupt practices in Nigeria and ensuring that the country's financial systems operate smoothly. The public is urged to report any corrupt activities they observe to the appropriate authorities.
