EFCC Nabs N32.4 Million in Suspected Vote-Buying Scandal in Lagos

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reportedly thwarted a suspected vote-buying attempt by intercepting a sum of N32.4 million in cash in Lagos State.

According to EFCC spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, the recovery was made on Friday by operatives of the Lagos zonal command of the anti-graft agency.

The cash is believed to have been earmarked for use in influencing voters in an upcoming election in the state.

Uwujaren revealed in a statement that an unnamed suspect had been arrested in connection with the money and is currently being questioned at the EFCC office.

The agency has intensified efforts to combat electoral fraud and other forms of financial crimes in the run-up to the election.

This latest development is in line with the EFCC's commitment to upholding the integrity of the electoral process in Nigeria.

The agency has previously cautioned against the use of illicit funds to sway voters during elections, noting that it undermines the democratic process and can lead to social and economic instability.

The EFCC has urged Nigerians to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity related to vote-buying or other forms of electoral malpractice.

The agency has also warned that perpetrators of such crimes will face the full wrath of the law, regardless of their status or position in society.
