UNITED STATES — In the wake of a mass shooting in Allen, Texas, the White House is urging Congress to implement gun control measures. White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre informed reporters that the United States has experienced 201 mass shootings this year alone, citing a range of locations, including schools, shopping malls, and churches. She stressed that enacting gun control legislation is crucial to protect everyday Americans and urged Congress to take action.

Previously, the White House has indicated that President Joe Biden has already issued executive orders concerning gun control measures, but it is now calling on Congress to take a more active role. When questioned if the President had been briefed on reports that the shooting may have been motivated by far-right extremism and white supremacist ideology, Jean-Pierre chose not to comment specifically on this case. She did, however, emphasize that the White House has consistently spoken out against any rise in hate-fueled violence across America.

The alleged shooter, Mauricio Garcia, 33, was killed at the scene by an Allen police officer responding to a nearby call. Authorities have not yet confirmed a motive, but Garcia was reportedly wearing an insignia believed to be connected to extremist groups. Furthermore, investigators have discovered an extensive social media presence, including a range of neo-Nazi and white supremacist-related posts and images that Garcia is thought to have shared online.
