United States – George Alvarez, 34, of Brownsville, Texas, has been charged with eight counts of manslaughter and 10 counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after the SUV he was driving crashed into a crowd of Venezuelans waiting at a bus stop outside a migrant center.
The incident, which occurred on Sunday, killed eight people and injured 12. Authorities suspect Alvarez ran a red light and lost control of the vehicle but have not ruled out whether the crash was intentional.
In addition to the current charges, officials are waiting for toxicology reports to determine whether Alvarez was intoxicated.
