United Kingdom — A study by the University of Bristol has found that over half of gig economy workers in the UK, whose roles include food delivery, private-hire driving, and data entry, are earning less than the minimum wage.

Of the 510 gig economy workers studied, 52% reported earning less than the then-minimum wage of £9.50 an hour, with median earnings of £8.97 per hour. Over 75% also reported high levels of anxiety and insecurity related to their work, and more than a quarter stated that their work was putting them at risk.

This group of UK workers requires remuneration and protection, according to Alex Wood, who led the study. Respondents most commonly called for minimum wage rates, as well as sick and holiday pay and protection against unfair dismissal.
