United States — Mr Markwayne Mullin, the Homeland Security Secretary has revealed that DHS brought down nearly 2,000 drones during security operations at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
According to Mullin, many of the drones belonged to spectators hoping to capture aerial footage of the matches, but others appeared to be testing security around stadiums and fan festivals.
Increased security operations during the World Cup tournament help in tracking drone activities. "Security teams were able to bring them down before they even got out of the trunk of a car."
"Some of them we felt like were actually a threat, that they were testing the perimeter," Mullin said. "Some were licensed individuals that knew better, but they were trying to push it."
