NIGERIA — The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) recently reported 148 crude oil theft incidents within a week, with losses amounting to billions of dollars, in addition to hampering the country meeting its oil production quota assigned by the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).

However, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has announced an initiative to combat crude oil theft by procuring two aircraft that will be deployed by the end of September 2023.

This development is a critical step towards addressing the persistent problem of crude oil theft in Nigeria.

The country hopes the deployment of the two aircraft will curb the illicit trade of crude oil within the oil-producing areas of the Niger Delta and lead to economic growth within the oil and gas sector.
