UNITED KINGDOM — MPs receive hefty payouts after resigning from senior positions, while taxpayers bear the brunt of their failures, a new report reveals.

Former Prime Ministers Boris Johnson and Liz Truss were paid over £18,000 each in compensation following their resignations, while ex-Chief Whip Chris Pincher received an almost £8,000 payout after he resigned over allegations of groping two men.

Last year's mini-budget handled by Kwasi Kwarteng, who was sacked as Ms Truss's chancellor, proved disastrous, and he was also paid £16,876 when he was dismissed. Meanwhile, Rishi Sunak, who resigned as Johnson's chancellor, also received the same payout but returned the money to the Treasury.

The controversial sacking of Sir Tom Scholar, the top civil servant in the Treasury, cost £457,000 in taxpayer money. Sir Tom received £335,000 in severance payment and £122,000 in annual leave adjustments, wages in lieu of notice, and other payments.

Liberal Democrat Deputy Leader Daisy Cooper called the payoffs a "slap in the face for all those who have seen their mortgages soar because of Truss and Kwarteng’s disastrous mini-budget."
