Twitter has accused Meta, the parent company of Facebook, of misappropriating its trade secrets and hiring former Twitter employees who retained proprietary information in the development of its Threads app.
The letter accused Meta of violating state and federal law by using Twitter's trade secrets, and was signed by lawyer Alex Spiro on behalf of Twitter. Despite the accusations, a Meta spokesperson denied that any Twitter employees were involved in the development of the app.
The app, built off the existing Instagram app, has already signed up 30 million users, including social media stars like Kim Kardashian and Shakira.
