UNITED KINGDOM — UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has announced that visa fees and the immigration health surcharge (IHS) will be "significantly" increased to fund pay increases in the public sector.
Sunak said that if the government is to prioritise paying public sector workers more, the money must come from elsewhere, as he is not prepared to increase taxes or borrow more.
Visa application fees and the IHS have not been increased in recent times, despite general costs continuing to rise.
The pay increase for public sector workers, including teachers and health workers, will be funded by foreigners coming to the UK through increased visa fees and health surcharges.
