NIGERIA — The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ogun 1 Area Command, has intercepted 37 trailer-loads of foreign parboiled rice in different locations between January and June 2023, according to the command's Area Controller, Bamidele Makinde.
The command also seized 173,975 litres of petrol, equivalent to five tankers, and arrested seven suspected smugglers during the period. The luxury buses that were allegedly smuggled into the country were also intercepted and seized.
The command generated N93.301 million from import duties, auction sales of petrol, and scrap vehicles, marking a 310% increase compared to the same period last year.
The seized items, including used tyres, clothing, vehicles, cannabis sativa, and codeine syrup, are valued at N1,313,628,488.
