Meta, formerly known as Facebook, is set to launch a new app called Threads on Thursday, which is poised to rival Twitter at a time when users of the platform are seeking out alternatives following recent difficult user experiences.
Threads, which is linked to Instagram, boasts a text-based conversation app enabling communities to come together to discuss topics in real-time, while also allowing users to connect with other creators and build a loyal following to share content directly.
The app also resembles Twitter's user interface and functionality. Meanwhile, Meta will challenge a growing field of platforms competing to replace Twitter for its estimated 250 million users.
