Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, and owner of Twitter, has announced the launch of xAI, a new artificial intelligence (AI) company focused on unraveling the mysteries of the universe.
Comprised of talented individuals from renowned organizations such as DeepMind, OpenAI, Google Research, Microsoft Research, Twitter, and Tesla, the team behind xAI brings expertise from projects like DeepMind's AlphaCode and OpenAI's GPT-3.5 and GPT-4 chatbots.
Musk intends to position xAI as a competitor to leading AI companies like OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic, known for their advanced chatbots. The company's website states that more details will be shared during a live Twitter Spaces chat on Friday.
Notably, Dan Hendrycks, executive director of the Center for AI Safety, will serve as one of xAI's advisors. The startup aims to delve into the mathematics of deep learning and develop a comprehensive theory to advance AI to new heights.
Musk incorporated xAI in Nevada in March, and while previously changing the name of Twitter to "X Corp." in certain financial filings, the xAI website emphasizes its separation from X Corp., highlighting a collaborative relationship with Twitter, Tesla, and other companies in pursuit of their mission.
