UNITED STATES — Patrick Crusius, the perpetrator of one of the deadliest attacks on Latinos in modern US history, has been sentenced to 90 consecutive life terms by a federal judge.
Prosecutors had sought that Crusius receive consecutive life sentences for each of the 90 federal charges, including hate crimes and firearms offenses, to which he pleaded guilty.
Crusius displayed no emotion as he received his sentence. The attack took place at an El Paso Walmart in August 2019, when Crusius killed 23 people.
Mexico’s Secretary of Foreign Affairs said that eight of those killed were Mexican nationals.
This sentence does not preclude a potential death sentence in a separate state case, to which Crusius has pleaded not guilty.
