Cuba has criticized the presence of a nuclear-powered submarine at the US naval base in Guantanamo Bay, calling it a "provocative escalation".
The country's Foreign Ministry released a statement condemning the action, asking what the "military reason" behind it was, and warning of the "danger" posed by nuclear submarines in the Caribbean region.
Meanwhile, Cuba and Russia announced last month that they would pursue closer "technical-military" cooperation.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken claimed that China had maintained intelligence-gathering facilities on the island for years.
The Cuban foreign ministry also decried the "Illegitimate military occupation" of Guantanamo Bay, which is located on the southeast portion of the island.
