Nigeria's new President, Bola Tinubu, has taken prompt action to indefinitely suspend the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Abdulrasheed Bawa.
The decision comes after serious allegations of misconduct in office surfaced against Bawa. In a statement issued by the director of information at the office of the secretary to the government of the Federation, Willie Bassey, it was disclosed that the chairman has been directed to relinquish his position immediately to facilitate a thorough investigation.
Pending the investigation, the Director of Operations at the Commission is expected to take over the affairs of the Chairman's office.
The news has stirred up a lot of reactions from various quarters, with some groups commending the President's swift response to the allegations. However, there are also others who wonder if there is more to the suspension than meets the eye.
