United States — A curfew has been imposed after a deadly tornado hit a community in the southern tip of Texas. The storm tore through the unincorporated community of Laguna Heights, knocking down power lines and damaging dozens of homes. AP News reports.

One person died after being crushed in his mobile home, whilst ten others were hospitalised, two of whom are in a critical condition. Many others suffered cuts and bruises. The tornado struck at 4 a.m., whilst most people were asleep.

An EF1 classification was given to the storm, which clocked wind speeds of between 86-110 mph. Laguna Heights is located on the mainland across from South Padre Island, with the area not usually prone to strong tornadoes, however, weather experts claim that this spring has been relatively active.
