Scientists have discovered the largest cosmic explosion in history, called AT2021lwx, about 8 billion light years away. The explosion is estimated to be 100 times larger than our solar system, two trillion times brighter than the sun and twice as hot on its surface.
The event has been ongoing for three years, and the study authors believe it may have been caused by a supermassive black hole. Researchers hope the data collected from the explosion will help them learn more about black holes and how galaxies evolve.
