US President, Barack Obama held simple discussions with the Dalai Lama on Friday disregarding warnings from the Chinese government that the meeting with the exiled Tibetan spiritual leader would damage ties.
China via its Foreign Ministry summoned Daniel Kritenbrink, charge d'affaires of the U.S. embassy in China, on Friday night to criticize the meeting as prying in China's internal affairs.
According to the White House, Obama's meeting with the Nobel Peace Prize laureate, lasted for about an hour. Obama reasserted his support for Tibet's unique religious, cultural and linguistic traditions and human rights for Tibetans.
