Nigeria President, Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday officially reveal the country’s first homegrown unmanned aerial vehicle (drone) called GULMA.
It was designed and constructed by the Nigerian Air Force. The unveiling ceremony was done in kaduna. Speaking at the event, the president said aside from its diverse military application, the drone would provide a range of benefits in disaster management, power line surveys and law enforcement.
He further said that the aerial vehicle would also be useful in aerial imaging/mapping, telecommunications and weather monitoring. “It is also rapidly becoming an important tool in news coverage, environmental monitoring, and oil and gas exploration" he said.
The GULMA, most especially would be employed by the armed forces and security agencies in tackling insulgencies in the country. More so, as a qualitative, timely and reliable source of information could serve as a powerful tool for media practitioners .
