According to Reuters, Brent crude rose more than$1 per barrel on Thursday on worries on showdown between Iran and the West in the Middle East Gulf and a strike in Nigeria could disrupt oil supplies.

Tension between the West and Iran over the Islamic Republic's nuclear program has increased after an Iranian nuclear scientist was blown up in his car by a motorbike hitman on Wednesday, prompting Tehran to blame Israeli and U.S. agents.

Brent crude futures for February rose $1.14 to a high of $113.38 a barrel before easing to trade around 113.10 by 0940 GMT. U.S. crude oil was up 60 cents to$101.47.
