Moroccan police have arrested a hotel employee who confessed to stealing cash from members of Nigeria’s women’s national football team, the Super Falcons, during their pre-tournament stay in Casablanca.
The incident occurred over the weekend at the Marriott Hotel in Casablanca during the final days of the Super Falcons' training camp ahead of the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Nigerian midfielder Esther Okoronkwo initially raised the alarm on Snapchat. She revealed that hotel cleaning staff took cash directly from the players' wallets while they were out of their rooms. According to Okoronkwo, the players originally faced unhelpful and disrespectful reactions from hotel management when they reported the matter.
The total reported cash stolen from the team's rooms exceeded $1,200. The breakdown includes:

Following public outcry and official notification, Casablanca security authorities opened an immediate investigation. On Saturday, Moroccan police arrested a hotel worker suspected of the theft.
Local authorities located and recovered MAD 10,000 (Moroccan Dirhams). The suspect had already exchanged the stolen foreign currencies into local money.
According to updates shared by prominent sports journalists and verified by local outlets, the suspect has fully confessed to the crime. The individual remains in custody under the supervision of the public prosecutor's office, and full financial restitution is currently being processed for the affected athletes.
