TECH NEWS — Qualcomm's planned acquisition of Autotalks, an Israel-based automotive chip maker, has raised concerns for European Union (EU) antitrust regulators as it affects original equipment manufacturers and companies involved in vehicle-to-everything (V2X) semiconductors.

The EU competition watchdog claims that 15 EU countries have requested an investigation into the deal, as they want to ensure that customers retain access to V2X technology at competitive prices and conditions.

Qualcomm, which has customers such as General Motors, Mercedes-Benz, and Stellantis, has been investing in V2X research since 2017 and believes that a standalone V2X safety architecture will be necessary to enhance road user safety.

Both Qualcomm and Autotalks expressed optimism about working together to deliver global V2X solutions that will help accelerate time-to-market and enable mass market adoption of this safety technology.
