UNITED KINGDOM — A male BBC presenter has been suspended over allegations that he paid a teenager £35,000 for sexually explicit photos.
The corporation contacted London’s Metropolitan Police over the claims, although it reports that no formal allegation has yet been made.
The BBC’s director general, Tim Davie, said that the broadcaster first became aware of the allegations in May and that he is taking the situation “extremely seriously”.
Davie also condemned the speculation over the identity of the presenter. News of “a different nature” was revealed on Thursday.
Experts have warned that the scandal could damage the BBC’s reputation.
