FRANCE — In a shocking incident, a man armed with a knife attacked young children and adults in a playground near Annecy's scenic lake in the French Alps.
The brutal attack left four children aged between 22 months and three years and two adults injured, with the police using firearms to detain the attacker.
The injured were transferred to nearby hospitals and across the Swiss border to Geneva. While one of the injured young children was British, another was Dutch.
The French prime minister, Élisabeth Borne, confirmed that the suspect was a Syrian man in his early 30s who had sought asylum in France but had been granted refugee status in Sweden.
The prosecutor overseeing the case stated that there was no apparent terrorist motive behind the attack, and the suspect had no criminal record. The incident has left France and the world in shock, and authorities are currently investigating the motive behind the attack.
