UNITED STATES — Elizabeth Holmes, the founder of the now-defunct blood-testing firm Theranos, is set to begin serving her 11-year sentence for fraud-related charges at a federal prison camp in Texas this week.

The prison camp, which is located in Bryan, about 100 miles from Houston, currently holds around 650 women convicted of white-collar crimes and is where "Real Housewives of Salt Lake City" star Jen Shah is also serving a sentence for fraud.

According to the prison's inmate handbook, Holmes can expect to wake up at 6 a.m. each day, make her own bed, and keep her cell clean. Failure to keep the cell tidy could result in discipline. Holmes will also be required to hold a job and attend business classes, earning a wage between $0.12 to $0.40 per hour.

Holmes was convicted of four fraud-related counts out of 11 charges in January 2022. She has attempted to avoid prison several times, but a judge denied her request to remain free while appealing her conviction in May.

At the prison camp, inmates are accommodated in rooms with two sets of double bunks, tables, folding chairs, lockers, and open entryways without doors, as per the descriptions from sources who have served time there. Notably, the camp library holds a copy of "Bad Blood," a book about the Theranos scandal by John Carreyrou.

Holmes, who has been widely criticized for involving in manipulative and fraudulent activities, notably admitted to creating a fake voice and persona that she had used while making public appearances for Theranos.

Prisoners and guards at the Texas prison camp are reportedly curious and amused about Holmes' arrival, with some joking about getting her to scrub pots and pans during her stay.
