Over 270 Nigerian students who were trapped in Sudan due to ongoing conflicts have been airlifted back to Nigeria. The evacuees were flown from Aswan Airport in Egypt to Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
The Nigerian government had promised the students evacuation plans, which were facilitated by buses to move them out of Sudan with a Nigerian Air Force plane deployed for the operation.
The conflict in Sudan began on April 15, with armed clashes between rival factions of the North African nation's military government breaking out in western Sudan, Khartoum, and the Darfur region.
According to reports, hundreds of people have been killed and thousands more injured.
