Japan has imposed additional sanctions on Russia over its involvement in the Ukraine conflict. The sanctions involve freezing assets of groups and individuals, as well as implementing an export ban.
The measures aim to prevent third parties from evading existing sanctions against Russia. The move is in step with other Group of Seven countries who agreed during a recent summit to maintain and strengthen sanctions against Russia.
The restrictions were imposed following a deal signed between Russia and Belarus formalising the deployment of Moscow’s tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus.
Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno stated that Japan is fully committed to working with other members of the G7 to improve the situation in Ukraine.
