Nigerian students in crisis-hit Sudan are reportedly gathering money to move to neighbouring Egypt as the Nigerian Embassy has not communicated any evacuation plans.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, student Abubakar Sadiq said the embassy was “nowhere to be found” and that the criteria for evacuation set by authorities had been abandoned, resulting in a “survival of the fittest” situation.
The government hired 40 buses for $1.2m, but the passport details of students were reportedly withheld by drivers until they were fully compensated. Some students have already returned to Nigeria, with others stranded in desert locations before being re-routed.
