The Lagos State Government has confirmed the recovery of one dead body from the site of a seven-storey building that collapsed on Wednesday, April 12th, 2023. The building, which was under construction, caved in at 1st Avenue, Banana Island, Ikoyi, Lagos, trapping some workers under the debris.
On Thursday, the government announced that 25 people had been rescued alive from the ruins, but no fatalities had been recorded. However, on Friday, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, confirmed that the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) had found the remains of an adult male during the search and recovery operation.
The victim was hitherto unaccounted for by the site supervisors. Omotoso explained that the search operation continues, with the site divided into quadrants for a painstaking search and rescue operation. The government has assured the public that the rescued victims are all doing fine.
