The death toll in the Saturday night attack on Runji village in Kaduna State has risen to 33, with over 40 houses completely burnt down by the attackers, according to the chairman of Zangon Kataf Local Government Council, Francis Sani as reported by Daily Post.

The attackers invaded the community while the residents were asleep and divided themselves into three groups, shooting sporadically and burning houses in the process. Seven persons sustained various degrees of injuries and are presently receiving treatment at the hospital.

The 33 victims of the attack were given a mass burial on Sunday amid tears by members of the community. Dr Samuel Achie, President of the Atyap Community Development Association (ACDA), confirmed the number of the victims killed and those injured by the attackers.

The attack has once again raised concerns about the worsening security situation in Kaduna State and the country as a whole. Kaduna State has been plagued by incessant attacks on communities by bandits and other criminal elements, leading to the loss of lives and destruction of property.

The state government has been making efforts to address the security challenges, but the attacks have continued unabated. The recent attack on Runji village underscores the need for the government to take more drastic measures to secure the lives and property of the people.

In the meantime, members of the affected community are calling on the government to provide them with adequate security and support to help them rebuild their homes and businesses. They also want the perpetrators of the attack to be brought to justice to serve as a deterrent to others who may be planning similar attacks.

The attack on Runji village is another sad reminder of the urgent need for the government to step up its efforts to tackle the security challenges facing the country. The lives of innocent citizens must be protected at all costs, and those responsible for their deaths must be held accountable for their actions.
