Adekunle Gold Secures Record Deal with Def Jam Recordings
Nigerian musician, Adekunle Gold, has landed a new record deal with American music label, Def Jam Recordings, marking a significant milestone in his career. This comes two years after he founded his label, Afro Urban Records, and released two albums, "About 30" in 2018 and "Catch Me If You Can" in 2022.
Billboard reports that Def Jam's Chief Executive Officer/Chairman, Tunji Balogun, praised Gold's songwriting, artistry, vocals, and showmanship, hailing his growth over the years. He noted that the label had been planning to expand into the Afrobeats space since 2022, and that Gold was the perfect fit for their plans.
Adekunle Gold broke into the Nigerian music scene in 2015 with his hit single "Sade" and signed his first record label deal with YBNL Nation the same year. He subsequently released his debut studio album, "Gold," in 2017.
Gold is set to release a new album under Def Jam in June 2023, joining a roster of superstar alumni, including Rihanna, Jay Z and Kanye West. The Nigerian artist expressed his excitement about the partnership, stating that the label's history of breaking artists and supporting unique talent aligns with his own goals.
