Japan's consumer prices rose by 3.1% YoY in February, according to government data released on Friday, indicating a deceleration from the four-decade highs observed in previous months.
The figure, which excludes volatile fresh food, aligns with market expectations and followed the introduction of relief measures for soaring energy bills by the government.
In January, the consumer prices had jumped 4.2% YoY, the highest level since September 1981, driven in part by higher energy bills.
The Bank of Japan sees the price increases as temporary factors and has left its ultra-easy monetary policy unchanged.
