According to recent news reports, the Texas Board of Nursing has taken action against several nurses for allegedly acquiring fraudulent nursing credentials in the United States.

The US Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General (HHS-OIG) launched an investigation called Operation Nightingale on January 25, which aimed to uncover fraudulent dealings where individuals obtained nursing credentials and used them to qualify for the national nursing board examination.
As a result of this multi-state coordinated law enforcement action, it was discovered that some individuals had obtained fraudulent nursing degree diplomas and transcripts. The board stated that upon successful completion of the board exam, the nursing applicants became eligible to obtain licensure in various states to work as an RN or LPN/VN.

The Texas Board of Nursing is currently working with other appropriate nursing regulatory bodies, nursing education program providers, accreditation bodies, and authorities to detect, investigate, and resolve these matters as quickly as possible. The board is seeking revocation of any licensure obtained through fraudulent means and will continue to provide more information as it becomes publicly available.

The board has named approximately 20 nurses of Nigerian descent who were reportedly involved in the fraudulent scheme. It is important to note that this issue is not exclusive to any one particular group, and it is critical to ensure that all nursing credentials are legitimately obtained to protect patient safety and ensure the integrity of the nursing profession.

As this investigation continues, it is essential to reiterate the importance of transparency and honesty in all professional fields. Obtaining credentials through fraudulent means is not only unethical, but it also puts patients at risk. The nursing profession plays a critical role in healthcare, and it is essential to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and ethics.
