THREE SNAKES IN LATE IFUNANYA'S RESIDENCE — According to reports from family, friends, and local Abuja news outlets, the snakes entered through the water closet (toilet) and drainage pipes. It is believed that the Abuja Central Sewage system is home to many dangerous reptiles and many residences in Abuja, like Ifunanya Nwangene's residence in Lugbe, are connected to the central sewage system which allows reptiles to slither through pipes and into ground-floor apartments.
Ifunanya apartment was reportedly located in a quiet estate in Lugbe. At the time of the incident (snake bite), she was not entirely alone in the sense of being isolated; her landlord and neighbors were nearby and attempted to help her after she was bitten. She lived in a ground-floor apartment within a gated estate in Lugbe, Abuja.
Ifunanya was reportedly asleep around 8:00 AM or 9:00 AM on Saturday, January 31, 2026, when she was bitten on her wrist. The pain of the bite woke her up, and she saw the snake in her room. Two snakes were in her apartment. While the fatal bite was from a medium-sized cobra found inside her room, other snakes were found in her residence following a professional inspection.
Three snakes in total: a venomous cobra was inside her bedroom (the one that bit her). A smaller snake found near her doormat, and a third snake located in a nearby compound.
