United Kingdom — Addressing the London Defence Conference, British Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak warned the UK of the increasing risk to the West posed by China's espionage technology. He cautioned that Britain must protect itself from the Communist state's harmful influence.

He added that China's rise was an "epoch defining challenge." While he did not advocate for the abolition of all economic ties with China, he warned of the need to take precautionary steps against the country's continuing efforts at reshaping the global order, adding that the West can no longer be complacent about the risks posed by China's authoritarian behavior.

Sensitive sectors, such as security and surveillance, should pay attention, according to Mr. Sunak and avoid using equipment owned by firms with connections to Chinese officials.

The Prime Minister urged the need for particularly robust steps to protect highly sensitive areas of the UK economy, such as semiconductors, dual-use technologies, quantum, and so on.

At the conference, Sunak also raised hope that the size of the British army would not be cut. The UK’s plans to reduce the army's size have caused fears among military personnel, but the PM reassured them that there is a possibility that the government may finally lean towards a change of heart.
