The earliest study on the presumed cure for Ebola disease was published in 1990s. According to the report, some active sustances in Garcinia kola or bitter kola (a tree that grows in the rain forests of west Africa) may benefit ebola victims by slowing down multiplication of the virus.
The plant was found to halt the deadly Ebola virus in its tracks in laboratory tests. The report says extract could be eaten or rubbed into the skin. The anti-Ebola compound in the plant was said to prove successful in animal and human trials. And it was also said to be the first medicine to successfully treat the virus.
